Drowned.  Tuesday forenoon of this week (June 15, 1875), Eli Dodge, aged about fifteen years, and whose parents reside four miles northwest of Halstead, was drowned about a mile above the mill dam at Halstead. His mother and brother were near by at the time, and it is thought that the mother would have jumped in after him and perhaps been drowned also, had not the younger brother held on to her dress and prevented her getting into the water. The water is about nine feet deep where young Dodge was drowned, and as he could swim, it is supposed that the heat of the day produced cramps as soon as he jumped in.
