Elvin Elfred Porter, 38-year-old Newton resident, died Wednesday afternoon at the veterans hospital in Wichita. He had been hospitalized for two weeks. Born Oct 25 in Monta Vista, Colo. Mr. Porter was a veteran of World War II and had lived in Newton for 20 years. He resided at 826 Old Main. He had been employed by the Coleman Co. in Wichita. Mr. Porter was married here June 27, 1941 to Minnie E. Coleman, who survives. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. In addition to his wife, survivors include a son and daughter, Richard Earl and Roxxanne Rae of the home, and his father Archie Porter of Wichita; two sisters Mrs. Vernon Leckington of Newton and Mrs. George White of Kansas City, Mo; and a brother Arley, serving in the U.S. Navy. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Babtist Church. The Rev. Stanley A. Anderson will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Porter's body will lie in state at Draper's Funeral Home prior to the services. Newton Kansan September 20,1956
