Lillie was the youngest of seven, she had early in life to assume heavy responsibilities for her widowed mother homesteading in northern Michigan. She was always ready to help others, caring for the sick, or sharing her home upon occasion.

She was Irish and the Irish in all times have had the happy smiling nature that has become such an enduring quality.

Marring early in life, Lillie lived in Michigan until 1910 when she and her husband moved to Newton, Kansas, where she made her home until 1938, at that time she she lived with her daughter when the family moved to Ogallala, Nebraska.
