Cook, Lawrence A



Lawrence A. Cook, 77, died Tuesday (Sept. 21, 1999) at his home in Newton.

He was born Oct. 25, 1921, to Raphael A. and Geraldine B. (Shepherd) Cook. He married Vivian J. Loomis Jan. 4, 1945, in Newton. She survives.

He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Newton. He was a retired loan officer for the Railroad Savings and Loan of Newton. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and traveling to England and New Zealand.

Other survivors include: two sons, Ray R. Cook of Hillsboro and Chris A. Cook of Flora Vista, N.M.; two daughters, Jenelle Cook of Denver and Carma Cook of Newton; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Margaret Chandler and Edra Cook.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jim Anderson of the church officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family greeting friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Petersen Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association in care of the funeral home.
