Rickman, Pat - Building History

History

Patrick Rickman was the head of a building company. Many of his first cousins, the Anderson's, were also builders and brick layers. Some of their buildings are still standing, including: the main administration building, Bethel College; the Old Mill, corner 3rd and main; the First Baptist Church, corner 6th and Poplar; and Second Baptist Church, 3rd and Oak. The first Harvey County Court House, the old Cooper School, and the old McKinley School were also built by this company, but now have been taken down. Many of newton's first brick streets and sidewalks were laid by these men.
