History

Parents Henry and Elizira Garnett.

He was converted in Warren county, Ky., and baptized by Rev. George D. Loving in 1875, and was educated in Kentucky and Ohio. He worked in a saw mill and after finishing his education he taught school several years.

He was called to the ministry and ordained in 1879 in Kentucky. His first charge was in Derby, Conn., and he later pastored in New York and Ohio and was called to Salina, Kansas March 28, 1884 and to Newton Second Baptist church in April, 1889. He remained here until 1892 when he was called to Pueblo, Colo., Where he remained two years. Returning to Newton he was pastor here eight years, he then pastored in Arkansas City, Ponca City and Winfield. He became Southwest district missionary 1902 and remained so until 1907. He returned to Newton in August 1907 and served the church as pastor until Sept. 1919. His last charge was at Wellington from which he resigned in Oct., 1926.

He married Matilda F. Talbert, Jan. 18,1877, in Kentucky, they had eleven children.
