Funeral

William Welsh

The funeral of W. G. Welsh took place Tuesday at 2 p. m. and was largely attended. At that time Judson kilpatrick Post No. 36, with seventy-five comrades in line, marched to the residence where brief services were held and then escorted the body to the M. E. church.

Rev. E. C. Beach, pastor, assisted by Rev. H. Waitt of Wichita, conducted the services at the church which consisted of singing by the choir, an excellent and eloquent sermon by Dr. Beach and some very appropriate and earnest remarks by Dr. Waitt. Both of these ministers were not only pastors of the deceased, but lived neighbors and from daily association for years could speak knowingly of the earnest Christian man and neighbor, whose profession and actions were in complete harmony.

The Grand Army, led by the drum corps, then took charge of the remains and conveyed them to the cemetery, where they were tenderly laid away according to the beautiful and impressive burial service of this old soldier organization. When taps were sounded the cortege returned to the city, leaving the mortal part of comrade Welsh to await the reveille of the resurrection morn.

He was a faithful soldier, a grand man, a generous comrade, who has been finally mustered out here and has joined the hosts beyond the wall.

Mrs. W. C. Smith has penned the following lines "In Memory Of Uncle"

A gentle figure, feeble, bent with age,

we'll miss him so:

His quite, quaint, and unassuming ways

No more we know.

"With patience he has run his race,

With triumph reached his goal."

May our race be run so well as thine

O, gentle soul.

When sorrow came and burdens bowed us down,

"A friend indeed."

He would bear the weight that others should

"True friend in need."

A loyal patriot and comrade true,

Soldiers in distress

Could tell a tale of his Charities

He'd ne'er confess.

Ambitious but for his friends alone

Kind, unselfish one.

"God's noblest work, most nobly planned,"

A Christian gentleman.
