Obituary

LaVera Baker, 82, of Newton, died on Wednesday (Sept. 29, 2010) at the Kansas Christian Home in Newton.

She was born on Oct. 5, 1927, in Wichita, the daughter of John and Lydia Asendorf. LaVera attended St. John’s College in Winfield, graduating with an associate’s degree in arts in 1947.

God blessed LaVera’s life with many special people as she served God in her vocations at home, church, the community, and serving as the parish secretary at Zion Lutheran Church for 25 years.

LaVera is survived by her three children; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were on Saturday at the Zion Lutheran Church. Interment was in the Restlawn Gardens of Memory near Newton. A memorial has been established with Zion Lutheran Church. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
