Marilyn “Tiny” J. Brickell passed away on Sunday (Nov. 14, 2010). She was born on March 11, 1935, to Howard C. and Lucia (Sattler) Havens in Newton.

Her father nicknamed her “Tiny” at a very young age, and the name stuck throughout her life. She attended Newton schools and was a “stand in” during the filming of the movie “The Picnic.” Tiny married Robert Brickell on Oct. 10, 1956, in Newton. He survives of the home. She was a homemaker throughout her life and enjoyed working for Farrell’s market and later Gillispie’s Market, where she met many dear friends.

She is survived by her husband, Robert of Newton; brothers, Larry and Judy Havens of Westmoreland, Calif., Virgil C. Havens of Newton, Harold E. and Dawn Havens of Newton; sisters, Phyllis and Otto Lehrman of Westcliff, Colo., Helen and Wayne Partridge of Newton, Sandy and Julian Wall of Newton, and Jo Beth and Phil Wood of Wichita; and a very dear friend and sister-in-law Doris (Brickell) Stubby. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clyde and Vernon Havens; sister, Janice Havens, Shirley George and Brenda Porter.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial has been set up for the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
