Preston M. Bacon, 66, 1808 Terrace Drive, president of Wells Bacon Insurance Co. Inc., died Tuesday evening at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, where he had been a patient since Jan. 13. He served two terms as a Harvey County Commissioner and was a past president of the Newton Chamber of Commerce.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church with Rev. J. Charles Petersen officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born Nov. 2, 1911, at Geneva, N.Y., the son of Arthur Avery and Edith Morrill Bacon. He married Ruth Stricland on May 30, 1936. They moved to Newton from Wichita in 1950 she died July 27, 1971. He married Evelyn Pierce Plummer, Nov. 24, 1972, in Newton. She survives.

Mr. Bacon was a member of St. Matthew's Church where he had served five terms as senior warden, past board member of the St. Francis Boys and Girls Home, Ellsworth, where he had served for nine years; Newton Masonic Lodge; Wichita Consistory; Elks Lodge; member and past president of the Newton Chamber of Commerce; a member of the Harvey County United Way; Newton Insurance Board; Kansas Assn. of Independent Insurance Agents.

Survivors in addition to his wife include one son, Preston M. "Chip" Jr., Wichita; three step-sons, Dick and Dale Plummer, both of Newton, and Doug Plummer, Manhattan; one step-daughter, Miss Barbara Plummer, Newton, one brother Richard Bacon, Chattanooga, Tenn.; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Mary Francis) James, Tanguy, Penn.
