Someone Helped Himself To Horse

01 February 1919

Rufus Phillips thought for a time last night that he had lost a good horse, but was rejoiced to find that the somebody who had wanted the use of the horse and buggy for a while had returned it to a hitchrack just a block from where he had tied the horse early in the evening. Mr. Phillips had driven to town about 7 o'clock and tied the horse on West Broadway. He has a peculiar knot in tying so is sure the horse did not work the knot loose and wander away. About 11 o'clock he was ready to go home but had no means of transportation. He hunted around other hitch racks over town, but for a time could find no trace of the horse anywhere. Between 12 and 1 o'clock he found it tied at the hitch rack on West Sixth. The horse did not appear to have been driven hard so it may be someone just appropriated it for an hour or two, expecting to return it before he was ready for it.
