Margaret E. Schroeder, 92, died at her home on Sunday (Jan. 2, 2011) in Newton.

She was born on Oct. 13, 1918, to Gilbert F. and Nancy (Rubey) Woodworth in Guthrie, Okla. After high school, she attended Bethel College, where she earned her bachelor of arts degree in home economics/science in 1940. Margaret married Allison Schroeder on May 22, 1941, in Halstead. He died in 1995. She taught in Little Rock, Ark., while Allison was stationed there, and also taught for a brief time in Walton. Margaret retired in 1981 from Dr. Earl Sheets’ dental office. She was his receptionist for nearly 20 years. Her church membership was with United Church of Christ in Newton.

She also was an active correspondent with a group of college friends in a Round Robin Group. Margaret enjoyed traveling and going on golf trips with her husband, and also enjoyed her television time. She was an active member of several bridge groups for many years.

She is survived by a son, Tom and wife, Nancy of Wichita; a daughter, Nancy and husband, Russell Park of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandson, Ryan and wife, Amy of Kansas City, Mo.; and grandson, Weston Schroeder of Littleton, Colo.; great-grandson, Mick Schroeder of Kansas City, Mo.; and brother-in-law, Edwin (Susie) Buller of Halstead. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gilbert Woodworth Jr.; and sisters, Mary Buller and Nancy Wilson.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. Pastor Jerry Scribner will preside.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Harry Hynes Hospice or United Church of Christ in care of the funeral home at 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
