Andrews, Gertrude

The Newton Kansan

Gertrude R. Andrews, 91, died on Saturday (Jan. 8, 2011) at Halstead Health and Rehab.

She was born on Nov. 11, 1927, in Goessel to Daniel and Marie (Ratzlaff) Buller. On Nov. 6, 1938, she married Henry L. Andrews in Newton, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 1972. Gertrude was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Newton. She was a cook at the former Chuck House restaurant and a certified nurse aide in area nursing homes. Family was important to Gertrude, and she greatly looked forward to spending time with her loving family and many friends.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Weldon Voth of rural Newton; brothers, Elmer Buller of Wichita and Lee Buller of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sisters, Shirley Alewine of Hot Springs, Ark., and Carol Darvy of Tulsa, Okla. She has three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Lonnie Andrews; three brothers; and two sisters.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Ray Adams will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. Memorials may be left with Halstead Health and Rehab in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
