The many friends of W. R. Benn and of the family who had not been aware of Mr. Benn's critical condition were greatly shocked to know of his death which occurred Tuesday afternoon about 3 o'clock at Bethel hospital. Mr. Benn a well known mail clerk with a run to Oklahoma City. On November 14 he returned from his trip very ill. On Thursday the cause of his condition which became very serious was diagnosed as appendicitis and he underwent an operation at Bethel hospital on that afternoon but a complication which resulted from the ruptured appendix terminated his life.
Mr. Benn was 52 years of age and had been a resident of Newton for about twenty-five years. His marriage to Miss Mary J. Powell occurred March 8, 1899 and Newton had continued to be his home. Those in the family circle who fee the loss of a devoted husband and father are his wife, daughters Bessie and Pauline and sons, Harry and Carl.
