Ella Mae Leonard
WINFIELD -- Ella Mae Leonard, 95, of Winfield, homemaker, died Saturday (Dec. 18, 1999) at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.
She was born May 13, 1904, in Okeene, Okla., to Jacob and Mollie (Schuber) Haas. She married John Spohn Aug. 14, 1924, in Abilene. They lived in Tampa. He preceded her in death in 1945. She married Roy H. Leonard Aug. 4, 1946, in Wichita. He also preceded her in death Sept. 8, 1976.
She was a working partner with her husband Roy as a house builder with Leonard Builders Co. They built more than 100 new homes on the west side of Newton from 1947 to 1966.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Fidelis Sunday School class, all of Newton.
Survivors include: one daughter, Shirley Jester of Winfield; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Memorial services were today at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Anderson from First United Methodist Church in Newton officiating. Private family graveside service was in the Greenwood Cemetery prior to the memorial service.
Memorials have been established with United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) or Habitat for Humanity in Winfield in care of the funeral home.
