Blough, Peter

The Newton Kansan

Kansan, Friday, September 16, 1910

Father Peter P. Blough was born near Smithville, Ohio, Nov. 1838, and passed away in Newton, Kansas, Sept. 13, 1910, having reached the age of 71 years, 10 months and 12 days.

On Feb. 18, 1864, he was married to Nancy Plank, his now heart grieved widow. Nine children were born to them, one son and two daughters preceding him in death while they were yet very young. Those who are left to mourn his departure are; John S. Blough, Kansas City; Anna C. Byler, Newton; Bertha Stahley, Danvers, Ill.; Amanda Wilson, Purcell, Okla.; Elsie Kennedy, Purcell, Okla.; Effie at home, 209 Allison street, Newton. Also fourteen grand children and other relatives and friends.

Father Blough was converted in Ohio while yet in young manhood, and united with the Mennonite church. In 1879, he moved to Missouri. About ten years after which he united with the Evangelical church. He came to Newton, Kansas June 1st, 1909, and has been a faithful member of our church here. He has had poor health for years, but has borne patiently. He was waiting for the summons to come home. He has gone to his reward. For him death was a stepping over. He is now amongst the blood-washed throng. For him to live was Christ, to die was gain. We shall meet again.

Asleep in Jesus! blessed sleep!
From which none ever wake to weep;

A clam and undisturbed repose,
Unbroken by the last of foes.

Asleep in Jesus! peaceful rest!
Whose waking is Supremely blest;

No fear, no woe shall dim that hour
Which manifests the Savior's power.
