The Newton Kansan

Kansan, Wednesday, April 20, 1921

Caroline Spear was born at Potsdam, New York, November 30, 1848, and died at her home at 812 Pine street, at 1:30 p.m., April 18, 1921, at the age of 72 years. She was married to Chas. A. Cook at Colton, New York, May 21, 1868. To this union was born one daughter, Ida May, wife of S. A. Hunter, who together with her father, is left to mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother. Three grandchildren, Floyd, Roma, and Charles Hunter, and one great-grandchild, one brother, Walter Spear of Potsdam, New York, one sister, Mrs. wealthy Horton, of South Colton, New York, and a niece, Mrs. Minnie L. Watkins, of Valley Center, Kansas also survive her.

Mr. and Mrs. Cook came to Kansas in 1869, settling on a claim in Sedgwick county, twelve miles south of Newton, where they lived until 1884, when they moved to Newton, Where they have since made their home.

Mrs. Cook united with Baptist church since moving to Newton, and has made many friends. She has been a patient sufferer for the last ten years, and has endured herself to her neighbors and friends and will be greatly missed in the community.

Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist church this afternoon at 1:30 by Rev. A. Ingle. Internment was made in Greenwood cemetery
