FELL DEAD IN THE CINDER PIT TODAY

Isham Underwood, Colored, Found by Fellow Workmen

Isham Underwood, who works in the cinder pit in the yards (Santa Fe railroad) fell dead this morning about 8:30. Mr. Underwood is a colored man and has worked in the cinder pit for eight years. He lives at 1402 Oak street. He leaves a wife. Underwood has complained for several months that the gases from the coal gave him pains in the chest but did not think he was in serious condition. He came to work as usual this morning and was working alone when death came to him. His fellow workmen had gone to the machine building and when they came back found Underwood lying across a rail, dead.

Coroner Abbey was called immediately and took charge of the case. The body was taken to Northfoss undertaking rooms. Underwood was a member of the colored M. E. church of this city. The men say he was a faithful worker and was always ready to go to work on time and that he seldom missed a day at his work.
