Sarah Ann Green was born in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, August 31, 1854, and passed out of this life in Newton, Kansas, May 18, 1932. Age 77 years 8 months and 19 days. Her father and mother came to this country from England, and were the only ones of the relatives to break the home ties. Mr. Green caught the gold fever in the year 1849, and made the trip across the plains with an ox team to California. When a child her parents moved to a farm near Fairbanks, Iowa, where she lived until her marriage to A. W. Parkhurst, Aug. 2, 1874. They lived together for nearly 58 years. Soon after their marriage they came to Kansas and settled on a homestead two and one half miles west of Walton, where they experienced all the privations of early pioneer life.
