Mary E. Grob, 83, Peabody, mother of Robert Grrob, Sedgwick, died Sunday, June 22, 1997 at Peabody Community Living Center, Peabody. She was born December 20, 1913 at rural Newton, the daughter of Pete and Lula Brenneman Jantz.

A lifelong Newton area resident, she was a retired registered nurse for Bethel Hospital. A nursing scholarship fund in her name was established at Washburn University. She also ran a boaarding school for law students in Topeka during World War II.

On April 9, 1950, she married Carl E. Grob at rural Newton. He died November 12, 1970. She was a member of Free Methodist Church, Newton.

Other survivors: another son, Carl E. Grob, Newton; daughter, Mary Del Vecchio, Peabody; brother, Lawrence Jantz, Colorado Springs, Colorado; three sisters, Estella Brenneman, Leon; Naomi Pollard, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Leota Spinks, Tonganoxie; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Ephrium Jantz.

Services were Wednesday, June 25, 1997 at Golden Plains Free Methodist Church, Newton with Pastor Charles Kaufmann presiding. Burial was in the Zimmerdale Cemetery, Zimmerdale.
