Vera Louise Hanson, 82, Newton, mother to Patricia L. Penner, rural Burrton, died Tuesday, May 13, 1997 at her home. She was born June 22, 1914 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Vernon and Minnie D. Wood Bennett. A long time resident of Newton, she was a homemaker and worked with her husband in the chiropractic clinic and vitamin distributing company. She was also a field representative for Garner Shriver Congressman from the 4th District.

She was a member of First United Methodist, Deborah Circle, American Legion and VFW Auxiliary. She was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the Jr. Themian Study Club, all of Newton.

On April 10, 1936, she married Warren Eugene Hanson, D.C. in Oklahoma City. He died June 7, 1971.

Other survivors: son-in-law, Greg Penner, Burrton; two granddaughters, Alicia Fulmer, Newton and Anna Penner, Burrton; one great grandson, Jacob Pulmer, Newton. She was preceded in death by a son, Stuart Eugene Hanson and one brother, Vernon Bennett Jr.

Funeral was Friday, May 16 at First United Methodist Church, Newton. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
