Obituary

Martha Marie Berger, 96, Former North Newton resident of 36 years, died Saturday, January 19, 2003 at Halstead Place Assisted Living in Halstead. She was born September 14, 1906 at Arlington, daughter of Edward and Amalia Mueller Ewy.

On March 8, 1932, she married Walter Berger at Halstead. He died April 7, 1944.

She was a 1923 graduate of Arlington High School and a 1949 graduate of Bethel College. She was a retired school teacher who had taught in Arlington, Little River, Germany and France. She was a member of Bethel College Mennonite Church, North Newton and the Kansas Retired Teachers Associatiion.

Survivors: include one nephew, Keith Hege, Tuwcon, Arizona and her cousin and his wife, who served as her caregivers, Lester and Winifred Ewy, North Newton.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Emma Ewy and Tillie Hege.

Commital service was held Januaray 20 at Halstead Cemetery. A memorial service followed at Bethel College Mennonite Church.
