Hay Toliaferio Payne, son of Mr. & Mrs. Hay Toliaferra Payne was born near Bedford, Iowa January 27, 1892 and departed this life at the farm seven miles southwest of Burrton, Kansas on August 30, 1951, aged 59 years, 8 months and 3 days.

In early childhood, his parents moved to Oregon, Missouri; later moving to Columbus, Kansas, where he graduated from high school. He came to Lake township in Harvey County, Kansas in 1909.

He was united in marriage with Mabel Blubaugh in 1918. They moved to the present farm home in 1022. Three children came to bless their home; Mrs. Twyla Hill of Monument, Kansas; Mrs. Doris Harris of Burrton and James of the home. Besides the above mentioned companions and children, he leaves to mourn his passing two son-in-law, one grandson and three granddaughters; one brother, Minton of Hartlett, Oklahoma; two sisters, Mrs. Elmer Swope, St. Joseph, Missouri and Mrs. Henry Williams of Berkeley, California.

In early life he accepted Jesus Chrit as his Savior and united with the Presbyterian church. During his late illness, he reaffirmed his faith in Christ and united with the Pleasant Grove Evangelical United Brethren church.

He was a kind husband and father, a true friend and neighbor and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held at the Pleasant Grove EUB church September 1 with burial in the Burrton Cemetery.
