Shirley L. (Porter) Drake

Shirley L. Drake, 65, Newton, died August 22, 2006 at St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas. She was born August 24, 1940 to Ted and Ruth Adams Porter in Alamogordo, New Mexico. They preceded her in death. She married Lee Drake on February 26, 1956 in ElPaso, Texas. He survives in Newton. She was a member of the Circle 8 Square Dance Club and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

She moved to Kansas in 1973 and was a certified nurseaide working in nursing homes in Halstead and Newton.

Other survivors: son, Kenneth, Newton, daughters, Darlene Herman and Sandy Abrahams, Newton, Janet Kirk, Meriden and Karen of Claremore, Oklahoma; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; brothers, Donald Porter, Burrton and Stephen Porter, Mt. Hope and sister, Susie Bockhaus, Halstead.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Louise Porter; three brothers, Eddie, Robert and Ronald and grandson, Ricky Lankton.

Services were held August 25 at Petersen Funeral Home, Newton.
