Newton Man Faces Attempted Murder Charges

July 6, 2012

A Newton man faces the possibility of an attempted second-degree murder charge after an altercation at Midtown Towers Saturday afternoon.

Newton Police Lt. Eric Murphy said it would be up to the county attorney and charges could be reduced to aggravated battery as the investigation continues.

According to police reports Michael Earl Galloway, 63, Newton, got into an argument with a 52-year-old Newton woman who lives at the apartment. Police answered a call at around 1 p.m.

The woman told police Galloway put his hands around her neck and allegedly acted as if he were going to strangle her. She told police he later said he could kill her, the police report said.

After the domestic call, police also initially charged him with robbery, but all but one piece of the missing property was found. Murphy said there might still be a theft charge.
