Robert E. Gray, 78, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2008 at his residence in Newton. He was born March 17, 1930 in Reynolds County, Missouri to Ernest James and Macy May Williams Gray. They preceded him in death.

He retired from the Santa Fe Railroad on May 31, 1991 with 43 years of service. He was a member of the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees and the Fraternal Organization of Elks Lodge No. 706 in Newton.

He was a member and elder of St. Luke Presbyterian Church in Newton, serving on session, trustee and building committees. He coached little league baseball and had been a Newton resident since 1948.

Survivors: sons, Gary (Anita) Gray, Newton and Larry (Nancy) Gray of Wichita; brothers, John Gray, Burrton and Richard Tray, Arnold, Missouri; sister, Thelma Elder, St. Louis; granddaughters, Brena and Marci Gray; grandsons, Travis, Derek and Nick Gray; step grandson, Dallas Gilmre and two step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris L. Benbrook Gray; 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

Graveside service was at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
