Berry, Grover J.

Harvey County Independent


Grover J. "Buddy" Berry died June 21, 2012 at the Newton Presbyterian Manor.  He was born November 12, 1919 in Valley Center to Samuel and Hattie Byers Berry.  He is preceded by his first wife, Thelma Mae Crocker in 1954 and also by his second wife, Mary Ann Lawrence in 1998.

 

He was a retired machinist.  He served his country in Europe during WWII where he earned three bronze stars.  He was a life member of the Sedgwick American Legion.

 

He is survived by his two daughters, Vicki and Thomas Raica of Austin, Minnesota; Joyce and Joe White of Stony Point, North Carolina; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  He is also survived by severall nieces and nephews and friends, Paul and Barbara Works of Sedgwick and John Duncan of North Newton.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; Samuel and Hattie Berry; infant son, Grover J. Berry Jr; two brothers , Ben Berry, Blaine Berry and sister, Mildred Riggs.

 

Military graveside committal service was Saturday, June 23 aat Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick with Shaplain Jerroll Martens presiding.  Military Honors were provided by soldiers of Ft. Riley.  Memorials are suggested to the Newton Presbyterian Manor in care of Petersen Funeral Home, Newton.
