Emma Sue Bernard

Emma Sue Bernard, 78, 2910 Ivy Drive, homemaker, died Wednesday (May 6, 1998) at her residence in North Newton.

She was born Sept. 1, 1919, in Blytheville, Ark., to Iverson Bryant and Pearl Eva (Craig) Stewart. She married Bennett O. Bernard in 1940, in DeSoto, Miss. He preceded her in death January 1987.

She was a member of the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in La Junta, Colo., and St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Ladies Reading Circle and Eastern Star, all of Newton.

Survivors include: two sons, Owen Bernard of Los Angeles, Calif., and Michael Bernard of North Newton; one daughter, Evalyn Howland of Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Lucille Travis of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Memorial services will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Newton with the Rev. Joyce Holmes officiating. Burial will be in La Junta, Colo.

Memorials have been established with the American Lung Association and St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home or St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 801 San Juan Avenue, La Junta, CO 81050.
