CARLSBAD, Calif. -- Cheryl Eve (Auernheimer) Hoffman, 58, retired mortgage broker for Wells Fargo Mortgage, died Dec. 23, 2009, at her home in Carlsbad from tongue cancer.
She was born on Nov. 8, 1951, in El Dorado to Edgar Willis 'Ed' Auernheimer and Helen Maxine (Taylor) Auernheimer.
She attended elementary school at Garfield Elementary School in Augusta and Towanda Grade School in Towanda, with one year of junior high at McPherson Junior High in McPherson and four years of high school at Goessel High School in Goessel, graduating in May 1969.
Beginning in August of 1969, she attended Ambassador College in Pasadena, Calif., graduating in June 1973. She then went to work for a mortgage company on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles.
On Dec. 29, 1974, she married Thomas B. Hoffman in Pasadena and resided there until October 1981. She divorced and moved to Washington, D.C., and went to work at the Fannie Mae Corp. After working for several other mortgage companies in and around the D.C. area, she was transferred to the San Francisco area by Bank of America Mortgage. Later, Wells Fargo Mortgage hired her and she moved to Carlsbad.
When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and traveling. She also was an avid reader and loved staying in contact by e-mail.
She is survived by her father, Ed; two brothers and two sisters, Lynn Auernheimer and Maxine O’Neill of Canton, Anthony 'Tony' Auernheimer and Audrey of Salina, Joan Jacobsen of Newton, twin sister, Carol Gibbens of Halstead; several nieces and nephews; two aunts; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
A come-and-go 'Celebration of Life' with finger foods will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Jan. 16 at Goessel Mennonite Church, 109 S. Church St. (corner of Main and Church streets) in Goessel.
A family inurnment will take place at a later date at Hesston Cemetery.
