Henry T. 'Uppy' Upchurch

Henry T. "Uppy" Upchurch, of Newton, died Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2000) at Presbyterian Manor in Newton.

He was born Oct. 13 in Boxelder, Texas, to Benjamin R. and Clemmey Gertrude (Minter) Upchurch. He married Nellie LeDieu in Tucumcari, N.M. She preceded him in death October 1990. He married Pat Myers May 19, 1992, in Newton. She survives of Newton.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Newton. He served during World War II. He retired after serving 23 years in the Air Force. He joined in 1942 and retired as a Master Sergeant.

He retired Nov. 31, 1985, as a air mechanic from Beechcraft after 31 years of service.

Other survivors include: one brother, Ben Upchurch of Spearman, Texas; and two sisters, Mary Brem of Boxelder, Texas, and Ernestine Tatum of Arlington, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services and burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton with Chaplain Dennis Cochran from Hospice Care of Kansas in Wichita officiating. VFW and American Legion will conduct military honors.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established with Hospice Care of Kansas, 630 N. St. Francis, Wichita KS 67203.
