Akers, Kenneth W.

The Newton Kansan

   Kenneth W. Akers, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at his  home in Walton.  He was born January 290, 1943 in Newton, son of Lawrence and  Evelyn Marsh Akers.  He graduated from Newton High School in 1961 and attended Emporia State College for one year before enlisting in the U.S. Navy.  He was married to Victoria Hein in 1868 and they cotinued to remain close friends.

   After being discharged, Kenneth returned to Newton and eventually went to work in Wichita at Boeing Aircraft as an inspector.  He retired in 2005.  Following retirements he loved spendng tme on his 25 acres of ground.  He enjoyed restoring classic cars, including his 62 Imala which he took recently to the car show in Newton.  He also enjoyed doing carpentry work and working in his garden.

  Survivors: daughter, Hillary Matzen of Wichita; brother, Eldon Akers and wife Marion of Newton and grandson Nathan Matzen.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Earl Akers and grandson, Clayton Russell Akers Matzen.

   Services will be July 14 at Greenwood Cemetery.
