Obituary

 

Amos J. Filbeck was born March 4, 1848, in Christian county, Mo., died at his home 9 miles east of Hugoton, Nov. 14, 1922, at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 10 days.  He was married to Sarah Tune December 10, 1878, in Taney County, Missouri.  In March, 1879, they came to Harvey county, Kansas, and commenced life's journey together as husband and wife.  He enlisted in the civil war when he was 18 years old and had 90 days of active service in the Missouri militia.  He was converted at the age of 28 years, uniting with the general Baptist church.  He began preaching at the age of 34 and was faithful to the call of God till ill health prevented him from going into active service.  He was the father of ten children, four having proceded him to the beyond.  Those living are Jake Chessly, Hugoton Kan.; James Acro, Capron, Okla.; Viola Belle, St. Charles, Iowa; William Amos, Hugoton, Kan.; Sarah Margaret Maupin, Hugoton Kan.; Isaac Theodore, Denver, Colo.
