The Newton Kansan, August 15, 2014

Sonny Wagner, 52, is dead following a shooting at his home, 2107 Singletree, Newton.
According to Harvey County Sheriff T. Walton, Wagner's wife called 911 at 4:08 p.m. Thursday  to report she had been hit several times. An officer arrived at the home at 4:11 p.m. Thursday. Wagner greeted the officer with a "large" hunting knife. He was ordered to put the knife down, repeatedly by the officer.  Wagner raised the knife and moved toward the officer.
The officer, whose name is not being released pending a full investigation, fired his gun twice. Bullets struck Wagner in the chest.
The officer is a veteran officer with about 20 years of experience, according to Newton Chief of Police Jim Daily.
