Family: John Stauffer / Maria Stauffer

   Grandma Stauffer died Monday morniing at her home iin the west part of town from a complication of ailments incident

to old age, after an illness of about two weeks.

   Maraie Goebell was born in Rosenthal, Germany on January 17, 1826.  She came to America and settled iin New Jersey in 1856 with her only brother, who died about twelve years ago.  She was married to John Stauffer in New Jersey, April 10, 1858.  To this union 6 children were born, 4 daughters and 2 sons, 3 of the children died in infancy and one at the age of 15.  She moved to Sumefield, Illinois in 1863 and came to Halstead in 1876.  She lived on the farm north of this city.  For tthe past 6 years she had been an invalid.  Mr. Stauffer died in 1897.

   Services were held Wednesday afternoon from  the Mennonite Church, in which church she had been a member since early childhood.  Services were conducted by Rev.J. E. Amsutz, assistedby Rev. NH. P. Krehbiel of Newton.
