Merle J Schrag

Merle J. Schrag, 82, farmer and stockman, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at Halstead Health and Rehabilitation, Halstead.

He was born March 29, 1932, in Burrton to Paul Andrew and Alvina Bertha (Krehbiel) Schrag. He was a member of Burrton Mennonite Church and was a lifetime Burrton area resident.  On Oct. 22, 1957, he married Marilyn Kay Wall in Halstead, and she survives.

Other survivors include daughter: Sheryl (Mark) Buchanan; grandchildren: Sarah and Grant Buchanan, all of Wichita; brothers: Robert (Mary Ann) Schrag, Hutchinson, Paul Schrag, Burrton; and sister: Marlene (Luther) Barton, Hutchinson.  He was preceded in death by sons: Lowell and Lyle; brothers: Harold, Willard and LaVern Schrag; sisters: Joan Dick; and an infant sister.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 29, 2014, at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead; the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.  Committal service will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at Burrton Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at Burrton Mennonite Church, with Revs. James Dunn and James Gundy presiding.  Memorials may be given to Mennonite Disaster Services or Neighbors Food Pantry, in care of Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead.
