Thelma F (Dooley) Brackeen

Thelma F. Brackeen, 83, died today (Feb. 28, 2002) at her residence in Newton.

She was born Feb. 19, 1919, to Daniel Lee and Laura P. (Perkins) Dooley in Mira, Texas. They preceded her in death. She married Murl Brackeen Jan. 22, 1945, in Gainesville, Texas. He survives of the home.  She was a homemaker for her family. She recently celebrated her 83rd birthday with family and friends and was anticipating the arrival of her 13th great-grandchild.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Donna Brackeen and Ann Schmidt, both of Newton; five sons, Chuck Brackeen of Rose Hill, Daniel Brackeen and Herb Brackeen, both of Wichita, Stephen Brackeen and Mike Brackeen, both of Newton; a sister, Doris Thompson of Irving, Texas; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.  She also was preceded in death by: a son, Buddy Brackeen; three brothers; three sisters; and a grandson, Richard W. Schmidt.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2002 at Petersen Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. William Scott, retired of the First Church of God officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials have been established with First Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
