Louise Herrod, 85, died at her home on
April 4 in Newton, Kansas.
Louise was born on August 16, 1929, in
rural Anadarko, Oklahoma, to Henry and Channie Robert.
Louise was one of twelve children. The
family moved throughout the country working as migrant workers in the
southwest United States. They worked hard to provide for their
family. They picked cotton in Texas and varied produce in Arizona,
New Mexico and California.
Louise settled with her younger four
children in Newton, where she worked as a cook in the health care
industry until her retirement.
Louise was a very strong woman with a
deep faith in the Lord. She was small, quiet and laid back but had
great inner strength and was "spicy." She had a very
calming effect on people. She enjoyed travel, was a great cook and
loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandchildren. She
was "Mama" to many children and loved and cared for them as
if they were her own.
She is survived by her seven children:
Regina and Carl Specht, Caroline Carter, Kenneth and Sherry Herrod,
Clarence Herrod, Stella Amy Palmer, Mary Denise Robinson, Charlotte
and Marcus Potter; sisters: Delores and Azaline; and 14 grandchildren
and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her
parents and nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00
PM, Friday, April 10, at the First Church of Christ in Newton.
Visitation is scheduled from Thursday, April 9, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM
at Petersen Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to
8:00 PM during the visitation. Burial will follow the service at
Restlawn Gardens of Memory in rural Newton.
