Obituary: Joseph T. Cooke
KS_Newton -- Joseph T. Cooke, 83, passed away Monday, Feb.
4, 2013, at his home in Sunland, Calif.
Services and internment were held Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at
the Riverside National Cemetery and included the remains of his wife, Gladys.
Joe was born on Nov. 7, 1929, in Wichita to Mary Eva and
Michael C. Cooke.
He is survived by two sons, Joey and Billy Cooke of Sunland;
a daughter, Stephanie (John) Matas of Winnipeg, Canada; grandsons, Eli Matas
and Jesse Matas of Winnipeg; sisters, Catherine Rosselot of Topeka, Rita
(Clayton) Sadowski of Newton, and Jean (Arlo) Bauer of Wichita.
He graduated from Newton High School in 1948. He served in
the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and retired from the U.S. Post Office
in Van Nuys, Calif.
He enjoyed going to the horse races, spending time in Las
Vegas with his siblings on their reunions, and traveling to Reno to spend time
with friends. He will be dearly missed by family, which includes his many
loving nieces and nephews.
