Emma S. Kaufman
HESSTON -- Emma S. Kaufman, 89 of Schowalter Villa, formerly of Newton, died today (March 3, 1993) at HCA Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was a homemaker. 
She was born Jan. 21, 1904, in Alta Mills to Peter J. and Mary Goering Schrag. She had lived in Newton since 1944.
On April 3, 1921, she married Ray J. Kaufman in Moundridge. He survives.
She was a member of Bethel College Mennonite Church, Newton Garden Club, extension club and Bethel Deaconess Hospital Junior Auxiliary. 
Other survivors include a son, Vilas of Newton; three daughters, Velor Peters and Betty Washburn, both of Newton, and Dorothy Kaufman of Wichita; a brother, Waldo Schrag of Moundridge; a sister, Olga Krehbiel of McPherson; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Clayton; a daughter, Hazel; two granddaughters; and one grandson.
The funeral service will be at 10 a. m. Saturday at Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton with the Rev. Darrell fast officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p. m. Thursday and 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. Friday at Petersen's Funeral Home.
Memorials may be sent to Mennonite Central Committee, the church or Schowalter Villa, in care of the funeral home.
