Timothy (Tim) Hartlep

Timothy (Tim) Hartlep, 57, of Hesston, peacefully passed away on Friday (July 20, 2012) at his home.

Tim was born on May 16, 1955, in Slayton, Minn., to Gwendolyn and Sherman Douglas Hartlep. He grew up in North Dakota and Minnesota, graduated from Fulda High School on May 27, 1973, and wed Pamela (Schwab) on Sept. 21, 1974.

Tim's service to the USAF began in 1973 until he was honorably discharged in 1983. A daughter, Aarin, was born on June 7, 1979. His first marriage dissolved in May 1987.

Tim wed Karla (Hendrickson) on May 26, 1990, in Wichita. Tim and Karla raised two sons in Newton, then relocated to Hesston in 2007.

Tim was a gifted artisan and possessed a great understanding for all things mechanical. After his duty in the USAF, he had a variety of jobs from custom picture framing, bridge building, and for the past 20+ years, maintenance at Heartspring. An avid outdoorsman, Tim hunted, fished, had an awesome eye for target shooting, and held a deep appreciation for all things Kansas. A husband, father, leader, mentor and friend, Tim was never afraid to let us know what he was thinking.

He had a welcoming, vibrant, confidant personality that was most content at home, in his shop, creating beautiful furniture from repurposed Osage Orange fence posts.

Tim is survived by his mother, Gwendolyn Hartlep of Fulda, Minn.; four siblings, Mark Hartlep of Fulda, Minn., Susan Jarvis of Gilby, N.D., Allison Smith of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Kyle Hartlep of Gilby, N.D.; wife, Karla of Hesston; former wife, Pamela Heser of Lake Hughes, Calif.; daughter, Aarin Covert of Lake Hughes, Calif.; son, Wade Albee of Newton; son, Jason Albee of Newton; eight grandchildren; and 10 adopted terrier mix shelter dogs, that include two rat terriers, Id and Cookie, who were his beloved shop and fishing buddies.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sherman Douglas Hartlep.

Cremation services were performed by Miller-Ott Funeral Home, 107 S. Lancaster, Hesston, KS 67062, (620) 327-2685. A service in celebration of Tim's life will be at 11 a.m. Friday (July 27, 2012) at the Heartspring Conference Center, 8700 29th St. N., Wichita.

The service will be officiated by the Rev. Tim Lytle of the Unity of Wichita Church.

The family would like to express thanks to each and every one of you that shared Tim's full, active life with him. Your presence was truly valued and appreciated.

Many thanks also to Heartspring, the Kansas Humane Society, Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center, and Harry Hynes Hospice for your support.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219.
