Richard Adair 'Dick' Payne

Obituary

SALINA — Richard Adair “Dick” Payne, 87, Salina, died on Sunday (Feb. 19, 2012).

He was born on July 3, 1924, in Clyde, the son of Moses Francis and Julia Esther (Gram) Payne.

He was the owner and operator of Payne Oil Co., later Propane Central. Dick was a member of 1st United Methodist Church in Salina, where he and his late wife, Barbara, were members of the Peacemakers Sunday School Class. He was a member of Isis Shrine, a World War II Army veteran, American Legion member and life member of the V.F.W.

Dick married the former Barbara Ruth Griffeth on Aug. 7, 1944, in Ames. She preceded him in death on June 17, 2008, as did one brother and one sister.

He is survived by his three sons, Rick (Maura) Payne of Newton, David (Ann) Payne of Salina and Mike Payne of Salina. He has two brothers, Larry (Beverly) Payne of Loveland, Colo., and Francis (Marilyn) Payne of Peabody. His eight grandchildren are Todd Payne, Tiffany White, Tara Payne, Brett Payne, Dr. Ryan Payne, Eric Payne, Kevin Payne and Shannon Payne. There are 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the 1st United Methodist Church in Salina. Memorials are suggested to the church or Hospice of Salina. For more information or condolences, go to www.ryanmortuary.com.
