Jack L. Spurlock, 65, died Sunday (July 18, 2004) at Newton Medical Center.

He was born March 26, 1939, to Elmer G. and Mattie Simpson-Spurlock in Galena.

He attended schools in Galena. He was a former resident of Hutchinson and Hesston until settling down in Halstead. He served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1961. He also served in the National Guard and was a member of the Hutchinson Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a machinist by trade, working in several manufacturing plants in the area. He also enjoyed playing his Gibson Hummingbird guitar and entertaining family and friends with his music.

Survivors include: two sisters, Mildred Zwickl of Great Bend and Marvis Blaylock of Moundridge; a brother Max Spurlock of Wichita; six daughters, Tina Wells of Wichita, Brenda Spurlock of Newton, Janet Richert and Dana Jones, both of Moundridge, and Deandra Hester and Jolana Spurlock, both Hutchinson; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He also was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Elmer G. Spurlock, Mattie Simpson-Spurlock, Bertha Waber, Dorothy Demanche, Elmer Spurlock Jr. and Billy Don Spurlock.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton with Pastor Tom Hawks officiating.

Graveside service will be held at East Lawn Cemetery in Hesston.

Memorials have been established with the American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home.
