Obituary: Billie Lee Wright

Billie Lee Wright, 89, died on Wednesday (Feb. 16, 2011) at Presbyterian Manor in Newton. 

He was born on July 15, 1921, in Walton to Harvey Lee and Elsie Mae (Worthington) Wright. 

Billie graduated from Marion High School and then enlisted in the Army Air Force on Nov. 11, 1942, during World War II. He was honorably discharged in October 1945. 

He married Dorothy Edna (Powell) on Sept. 10, 1943, in Riverside, Calif. She died on June 11, 2005. 

Billie worked as a salesman for Montgomery Ward and was a technical illustrationist for amusement parks. 

Survivors include a son, David, and his wife, Candee, of Newton; sisters, Virginia Pientka of Hesston and Alice Wagner of Newton; brother, John Wright of Hesston; and two grandchildren, Aimee and Molly Wright. 

Preceding him in death were his parents; his spouse; a daughter, Judith Wright; and brothers, Harold Wright and Donald Wright. 

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, with the family greeting from 6 to 8 p.m. 

Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Walton Cemetery in Walton. 

Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Kansas, in care of the funeral home at 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
