David T. Jackson

David T. Jackson, 84, died Tuesday (Nov. 3, 2009) at Newton Medical Center in Newton.

He was born on June 29, 1925, in Thackerville, Okla., to John Perry and Claudia Pearl Jackson.

On July 7, 1945, he married Elsie E. Janzen in Newton, and she survives of the home.

David served in the Army Air Force with the 614th Air Engineer Squadron during World War II on the island of Guam. After being honorably discharged, he went to work with the Coleman Co., retiring after 40 years of faithful service.

David gave his heart to the Lord on May 16, 1958. He has faithfully served as a part of the family at the First Church of God for 51 years. He served as a Sunday school teacher and board member, and was instrumental in the building of the Family Life Center and Church. He also took an active part in the men's group and Prayer Partners. He loved to visit new church members, leaving his trademark business card and loaf of bread.

Other survivors include daughter, Cynthia Flory of Newton; son, David M. Jackson and his wife, Cheryl, of Newton; daughter, Nancy Fenrick of St. Joseph, Mich.; six grandchildren, Preston (Veronica) Jackson, Kimberly Dominguez, David T. Jackson II (Brandi), Jason Riley, Phillip Fenrick, and Nicole Schmitt (Jerry); great-granddaughter, Elsie Marie Jackson; brother, Charles Jackson (Pat); sister, Bea Friesen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five children, Wesley, Larry, Darryl, Ronald and Joel; three brothers, Albert, Walter and Wesley; and four sisters, Clara, Faye, Ann and Mary.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Church of God in Newton.

Burial will be at Restlawn Gardens of Memory with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Church of God in the Philippines in care of Petersen Funeral Home or First Church of God in Newton.
