Estella 'Stella' Brenneman

Estella "Stella" Brenneman, 94, died Friday (May 12, 2006) at her residence in Leon.

She was born April 5, 1912, to Peter and Lulu (Brenneman) Jantz in Leon. They preceded her in death. She married Lawrence Brenneman May 24, 1936, in Newton. He preceded her in death Feb. 6, 1981.

She was born in Newton and was a longtime resident of Howard, El Dorado and Leon. She was raised on a farm and plowed fields and put up hay as a young girl. She was a lifelong Christian and demonstrated her faith through faithful giving and hospitality.

As an adult, she and her husband worked and managed a dairy farm near Howard. She was known as "Granny" to many people and was a wonderful, giving and loving mother and grandmother.

She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include: a son, Wayne Brenneman and wife Jean of Newton; a daughter, Oleta Schmidt and husband Melvin of Leon; a brother, Lawrence Jantz of Colorado Springs; a sister, Naomi Pollard of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by: brothers, Charles Jantz and Ephriam Jantz; and sisters, Mary Grob and Leota Spinks.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Leon Christian Church with Pastor Corey Landreth officiating.

Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Restlawn Gardens of Memory in rural Newton.

Memorials have been established with Leon Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
