Maxine D. King

Maxine D. King, 86, died Thursday (Oct. 18, 2007) at Kidron Bethel Health Care in North Newton. She was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Bucklin to George and Edith Moorehead. She married David O. Fortna, who preceded her in death. She later married Robert King, who also preceded her in death. She moved to Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton from Emporia to be closer to her family. She worked as a medical receptionist. She was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed the Atlanta Braves baseball team.

Survivors include sons, Mike and Lorri Fortna of Newton and Larry and Marilyn Fortna of Leesburg. Fla.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Evertt Moorehead; and sisters, Beulah Smith and Mildred Moorehead.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday. No other services will take place.

Private family burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date after cremation.

Memorials may be made to Kidron Bethel Village in care of the funeral home.
