William Wayne Akers
William Wayne Akers, 71, passed away
peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019.
“Bill” was born Nov. 6, 1947, to
Wayne and Mabel Akers in Newton.
He grew up in Newton and Halstead,
graduating in 1967 from Halstead High School. He enlisted in the U.S.
Navy and served on the USS Enterprise following high school. Bill and
his family moved to the Seattle area in the 1980s. He eventually
settled in Anacortes, Wash., where he loved the view of Mt. Baker and
the San Juan Islands.
Bill loved his family, especially his
grandchildren. He loved watching NASCAR and was a proud 12th Man for
the Seattle Seahawks. He was a member of CVI Motorcycle Organization.
He is survived by his children Judy and
husband Brett of Augusta, Ga., Will and wife Tricia of San Diego,
Angie Akers and fiancé Enrique Vazquez of Auburn, Wash., and Thomas
Akers and wife Aurora of Oak Harbor, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; one
great-grandchild due in August; brothers Larry Akers and wife Micki
of CleElum, Wash., and Bob Akers and wife Marilyn of Newton; and
sisters Carolyn Armendariz and husband Mike of Halstead, and Virginia
Anderson of Newton, KS.
He was preceded in death by both
parents and a nephew, Jon Akers.
Service was on Thursday, Jan. 24, at
Marlatt Funeral Home, Kent, Wash., with burial following at Tahoma
National Cemetery, Kent, Wash.
