William 'Bill' Urbanek

William "Bill" Urbanek, 83, died Wednesday (Feb. 3, 2007) at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born Nov. 18, 1923, in Pilsen, the son of Agnes (Ladman) and John Urbanek.

On June 3, 1967, he married Norma R. Hecht in Wichita. She survives of Newton.

Before moving to Newton, Norma and William resided in Pilsen, where they operated the family farm and Bill was a self-employed mechanic serving the community for many years. He spent the majority of his lifetime in that community and was well respected by many.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton. He also held a previous membership with the Midwestern Polka Club.

Other survivors include a daughter, Sandy (Urbanek) Pontious and husband Trey of McPherson; sister, Blanche Sherffius of Cottonwood Falls; and granddaughters, Brianna and Chayce Pontious of McPherson.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton with the Revs. James Mainzer and Paul O'Borny officiating.

Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Newton.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
