Wichita - FRIESEN, Andy W., age 85, formerly of Hillsboro, passed away on April 17, 2021. He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School and attended Tabor College for one year where he played basketball. He married his High School sweetheart, Bonnie Friesen, on March 1, 1957. Andy worked as a blacksmith, a jeweler, and then owned Friesen’s Furniture. He was a beloved husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, and friend who lit up any room he walked into! Andy’s talents were many. He was a great fisherman, hunter, golfer, bowler, wood-worker, and could fix just about anything. He enjoyed being a big part of his grandchildren’s lives and especially loved attending their events. Andy was always very proud of his family and was deeply committed to them. He was brave, strong, hardworking, fearless, and had a great sense of humor. Throughout his entire life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him. Andy passed away peacefully on April 17, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Lydia Friesen and four siblings. Survivors include: his wife, Bonnie; daughter, Christy Jewell; daughter, Shelley Funk and her husband Wendell; 2 grandchildren, Jordan Funk (Melissa) and Taylor Gould (Garrett); 5 great-grandchildren, Cora, Finley, Lily, Luke, and Griffin; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Andy’s celebration of life will be at First Mennonite Brethren Church (8000 W. 21st St., Wichita, KS 67205) on Thursday, April 22st at 3pm. The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful help and care given by Dr. Jeff Reiswig, Schowalter Villa, and Harry Hynes Hospice.
