OTTAWA, Kan. (KAKE) - The Kansas Highway Patrol says a 31-year-old Newton man was killed early Thursday morning when an SUV collided with his pickup truck in Franklin County.

The accident happened at around 4:45 a.m. on U.S. 59 south of Ottawa. The patrol said a northbound Mazda CX-9 crossed the center line and hit a southbound Toyota Tacoma. 

The driver of the Tacoma, Bryce Crump, died in the crash. The 18-year-old man from Garnett driving the SUV was hospitalized with potentially serious injuries. 

It's unclear what caused the SUV to veer into oncoming traffic.
